TASH & DEV’S 15 PRE-TRAVEL TIPS ✓

There is nothing like the excitement leading up to travel. Mapping out the various beaches you want to visit and making reservations at amazing restaurants is definitely the best aspect of planning. But preparing logistically is not to be overlooked. All of Tash and Dev’s travel experience has left them with 15 pre-travel tips that can help us all…

Here they are:

1) ???? Make sure to grab cash in the currency of the country you’re traveling to before-hand. Also, check the tipping etiquette in the country you’re traveling to. They really vary and knowing this will really help your experience with the locals!

2) ????Once you know where you are staying, conduct research on the nearest hospitals and pharmacies to your hotel in case of any emergencies.

3) ???? For international travel, ring both your bank and phone provider so both are aware you will be out of the country. You won’t want to deal with blocked transactions when you could be enjoying!

4) ???? Restock on any items you may not have abroad. For example: medications, vitamins, birth control prescriptions, etc.

5) ???? Weigh your bag before you arrive at the airport, and make sure it’s within the airlines allowance. They will sadly catch you!

6) ⚡️Electricity. First, bring portable chargers. They save Tash & Dev on days when they’re out exploring. Secondly, while most hotels have adapters, bringing a couple along with you is a safe bet.

7) ????We are lucky in the way that most countries are proficient in English, but it’s very much appreicated by locals when tourists attempt their native tongue. The Google translate app is extremely helpful because you can even take a picture of something, and it will translate it for you.

8) ???? Ensure your passport is not within 6 months of expiration. Some countries do not allow entrance if you are within that 6 month period.

9) ???? Devin’s favorite tip: Put all travel documents, recommendations, inspiration into a photo stream on your phone. (And invite your travel buddy to it!)  It always helps her stay organized.

10) ???? Confirm that your hotel has wifi. Even still, not all hotels have free Wi-Fi.

11) ✈️ Airport Lounges! Such a special treat and little details such as this make all the difference. Plus, they are surprisingly attainable. Buy lounge access cards on eBay!

12) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ One of the best parts of staying at a 5-star hotel are the recommendations that come along with it. Pro-tip: You don’t have to actually stay at the hotel to get their recs. You can inquire with the hotel (website or call the concierge) to get the inside, special scoop.

13) ✍ Definitely leave a detailed itinerary at home with family or friends. Details you will want to share: flight information, hotel information, local emergency contacts (if available), travel insurance policy number and contact information.

14) ䷔ Print copies of important travel documents. Things are lost or stolen somewhat frequently when traveling abroad, so a great backup plan is to have copies tucked away in your suitcase.

15) ???? Map It Out! Create your own custom Google Map with your hotel and your must-do sights/activities/restaurants. It will allow you to have a better sense of directions and your movements (so you aren’t unnecessarily backtracking, etc) Also, download an offline map application to your phone – this will undoubtedly come in handy.

  1. Pack your pads and tampons, even if you’re not expecting a period during your trip! I was staying in a more rural village in Cuba when I got a very heavy period as a surprise. There were no pads or tampons anyawhere, so I had to macgyver something with my son’s diapers. blegh.
