To be honest, we are always on the search for the perfect spot to soak up some sun and hop into the water. But once the winter months roll around, that need is even deeper… Our Vitamin D levels have dropped and our tans have faded. So, it’s something that must be fixed. We’ve rounded up the top 10 destinations, near and far, for a dreamy, sunny winter getaway.
The Seychelles Islands
The first destination on our list is a trek for most, but so worth the effort. The Seychelles Islands are an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa. The Seychelles are known to be one of the very top beach destinations in the world, and it’s easy to understand why… crystal clear waters, lush mountains for a backdrop, and an easygoing atmosphere.
The Bahamas
It’s hard to go wrong when you pick the Caribbean for winter travel. There’s very little rainfall, and the crowds have dispersed, so you can have the stunning beaches to yourself.
Palm Springs, California
About two hours outside of Los Angeles, this spot is a celebrity favorite. There may not be a beach here, but trust us, there are enough of pools to make up for it. Weather is warm year round, but Palm Springs is just right in the winter, as it’s not too hot.
Cambodia
Similar the the Caribbean, it’s not the high season in East Asia, but you’d think it was with the picture perfect weather. The varying culture in East Asia is something that everyone should experience.
French Polynesia
Popular islands such as Bora Bora and Tahiti are a few of the islands that make up this picturesque spot. For being such an exotic destination, there are plenty of direct flights that aren’t as long as you may think. (Just 8 hours from LAX)
Ixtapa, Mexico
You could head to Cabo or Cancun, but this Mexican destination is especially special in the winter months. Between down right leisure, land or water activities and cultural outings, there is so much to experience on this scenic cliffside haven.
Australia
December, January and February are the warmest months for Aussie’s (their Summer, of course!), so this destination deserves extra consideration. There are endless adventures to be had here, so just make sure you have enough time!
The Florida Keys
There are plenty of places to consider in Florida, but for a more relaxed tone, you have the Florida Keys, featuring calm, turquoise waters, vast waterways, and countless bridges.
Sedona, Arizona
Again, no beach, but Sedona is the place if you’re looking to focus on wellness for your winter escape. Experience stunning hiking, spas, and the arts.
Maui, Hawaii
This list would be incomplete without one of the Hawaiian islands. Imagine perfect weather just like during the summer months, but add in world class whale watching and big, fun surf. There is something for everyone to explore on Maui, from water adventures, hiking to black sand beaches, or just cozying up on a lounge chair with a book… you can have it all here.
