Travel Journal: Exumas, Bahamas

It’s safe to say that the Bahamas is one of our favorite places in the world. The crystal clear water, beautiful white sand beaches, and cotton candy skies makes The Bahamas one of the most sought out beach destinations. This year we traveled to Great Exumas Island and experienced the beauty of George Town. Below is a recap of our experience:

Tips before you book:

-Make sure to have cash on hand as many of the local shops and activities only accept cash.

-Bring bug spray! Sand fleas are common in The Bahamas, and getting bit is not fun. We’ve heard that putting baby oil around your feet and ankles helps repel the bugs!

-Plan out your meals! There are not too many restaurants in Georgetown so if you’re staying at a house like we did make sure to plan groceries and meals.

-The lifestyle and dress code in the Bahamas is VERY casual. Leave your high heels at home.

Accommodation:

We stayed at an incredibly stunning private home that is a fantastic option to rent if are traveling with a group (we had 15 people). The home is called Bougainvillea House Villa and it’s truly dreamy. Located on a semi private white sand beach you have the ocean as your back yard, and are steps away from the beach. The views are picturesque and each corner of the home is chicly decorated with the adorable Bahamas charm.

What to pack:

-Bikinis, bikinis and more bikinis! The lifestyle in the Bahamas is very casual. We literally only wore bikinis and beachwear the entire time and were totally fine. Pack some casual flats and maybe a pair of sneakers incase you want to explore the island!

-The Bahamas shares the same outlets as America so no need for adapters if you’re from the US.

-Bug spray!

-Hats and sunscreen. The Bahamas is famous for it’s beaches and sunny weather, make sure to bring sun protection.

Activities:

-Swimming Pig beach! A 100% must see if you’re traveling to the Bahamas. Private boat rentals can cost around $1000 but if you’re with a group it’s totally worth it as the captain can take you around the islands and to private sand bars. Iguana island is also a must! Your captain will know where it is!

-Stand up paddle boarding

-Sunbathing. Have a relaxing day on the beach, enjoy the sunshine and dip into the cool blue waters. Bahamas is known for its beautiful sunsets and sunrises, so we suggest experiencing the picturesque sunset skies after a day of sunbathing.

-Scuba Diving and snorkeling!

Thank you Bougainvillea House Villa for a truly memorable experience and wonderful stay. We can’t wait for our next trip and will be dreaming of the warm waters and cotton candy skies until we’re back.
