You know how much we adore the beach right? We love it so much that we created a lifestyle brand around it. Well it sure beats the 9 to 5 slog at an office desk. We just think of the beach as our everyday office, with the best views in the world of course! If wanderlust has you wanting to feel the salty air in your lungs and sand beneath your toes, read on to discover the best beach cities in the world to live in.
Miami, Florida
We couldn’t write a list of best beach cities without mentioning Miami. It’s practically our second home! It’s the perfect place to feel inspired, creative and happy because there’s just SO much color. The art deco style pastel buildings on Ocean Drive South Beach are really kitsch and cute. We really love the cuban influences when it comes to architecture and food. It’s a melting pot of colors and culture, plus the beaches are the best. It’s not without culture either, with Art Basel Miami and The Perez Museum. Did you know Tash even lived here when she was younger?!
Barcelona, Spain
Wait what?! Barcelona? Isn’t that a city? Technically yes, but it’s a city by the beach. Barceloneta beach is famous for its laid back cool vibe. It was built around 1992 for the olympic games. When the sun goes down, the party atmosphere starts and the sangria begins to flow. We love the wounded shooting star sculpture and the nearby W hotel with its rooftop pool which is perfect for evening drinks. There’s always a buzzy atmosphere here which makes it one of our favorite European picks, plus Barcelona is one of those cities that’s not going to break the bank so you’ll get a lot more for your euros.
Nice, French Riviera
The chic French city of Nice just oozes glamour and has gallic charm by the bucketload. Stroll along the famous Promenade Des Anglais beachfront which stretches for miles and miles. The locals call it “le prom.” Have an aperitif at Le Meridien before dinner. When going out in Nice, we love getting our glam on, because you know this is the French Riviera after all, so why not!
Sydney, Australia
Okay maybe we’re slightly biased but we had to include Sydney on the list. With the urban buzz of the city combined with so many great beaches, it’s the perfect combo. Sydney is super laid back. We love Bronte Beach and small but perfect Tamarama. Bondi Beach is nearby and you won’t find a cooler spot than Speedo Cafe in North Bondi. It’s so easy to be healthy when you have vegan friendly places like this with coconut bowls, pitaya bowls and lots of other healthy yummy stuff! Bondi also has one of the most epic pool views ever at Bondi Icebergs Club.
Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii
What can you say about Hawaii that hasn’t already been said?! Kauai is part of the Hawaiian archipelago, so it’s just one of many islands. It’s lush, tropical and like something out of a tropical castaway movie. Did you know that “Jurassic Park” was filmed here? If you’re lucky you might even see some dolphins. Hanalei Bay Beach is unspoilt and picture-postcard pretty. The relaxed pace of life here is a welcome break from the fast pace of life most of us seem to lead.
Santa Monica, California
Cali baby. You can’t beat it. Santa Monica has it all. Third street promenade for shopping, cute canals, Venice Beach for colourful murals and the best people watching. Check out the outdoor gym ‘muscle beach’ which has been here since the 1930s! Head to Santa Monica Pier for old fashioned retro fun. Shutters on the beach is the go-to spot for a jazzy weekend brunch or just watch the sun go down over an ice cold beer on Venice Beach Boardwalk.
San Sebastian, Spain
The beautiful crescent shaped beach known locally as ‘La Concha’ is probably the most beautiful beach in The Basque Country. This small city also known as ‘Donostia’ is a known foodie destination in Northern Spain. It’s the perfect size for walking around, and everything is within easy reach on foot. San Sebastian is famous for its tiny but delicious pintxos which you eat standing up. Another thing, the food is ridiculously inexpensive too so it’s easy on your pocket. Nearby Zurriola beach is really popular with surfers in the Summer months. This city has the perfect combination, by day hit the beach and by night eat tapas.
Split, Croatia
When it comes to Croatia, you’re spoilt for choice. Head South to the second largest city after Zagreb to Split for the best beaches on The Dalmation Coast like Bacvice beach which offers great nightlife. It’s not just Greece that offers the best island hopping, Split has lots of tiny islands to explore too like Solta, Havar and Brac. If you’re a Game Of Thrones fan, even better as lots of scenes have been filmed around this area.
Bali Indonesia
As long as you like little monkeys then you’ll love Bali! There are so many awesome beaches like Kuta, Ubud, Nusa Dua, Canggu and Seminyak. The pace of life is so relaxed here and afs the cost of living is super reasonable, it’s become a mecca for all types of digital nomads who prefer location independent living. There are so many healthy vegan cafes here, it’s easy to healthy and happy! Tuck into dragon bowls or pitaya bowls for breakfast. There are heaps of fab yoga retreats here for people who need to power down and reboot. If wellness is your thing, this is the place for you. Many yogis come to Bali to heal and detox.
Tel Aviv, Israel
The old port of Jaffa may be old but Tel Aviv is young and full of life! It’s been rated at one of the best party cities in the world. Tel Aviv is the funky international city that never sleeps. Bograshov beach is where to go if you want to be in the middle of it all. This is the place for people watching and where people go to see and be seen. There’s even beaches for your four legged best friend! You’ll love the laid-back vibe of this multicultural city.
Ibiza, Balearic islands
Two words describe Ibiza. Boho chic. This tiny bohemian island is part of an archipelago off the coast of Eastern Spain. While it can be known for it’s crazy nightclubs, there is another altogether more civilized side to this island. If you’re looking to find yourself, you’ll most certainly find your zen and realign your chakras here. This island is a creative haven, attracting artists and lots of creative types.
Life is so much better at the beach, we can testify to that! So what’s stopping you? Get planning, get packing and get to the beach pronto.
Funny! I’m totally working on moving to Ibiza!!! Been coming for several years and seriously working on moving here for the past 2. It’s challenging but totally worth it! ????????
As one quote I saw recently and pasted on my mobile screensaver said: “Life is short! Move to the beach and never look back.” ???????? I’m on it!!
